Traffic simulation techniques have been in use since the first days of the development of traffic theories. The increasing calculating power of personal computers (PC) has led to the emergence of a number of traffic simulation models ( macroscopic, mesoscopic, and microscopic,) as practical traffic analysis tools. Some traffic simulation video clips using microscopic models are available on YouTube. 

There is great potential for useful application of various traffic simulation models to the analysis of complex traffic problems in urban areas, alongside the analytical techniques that are in use.
