JOHN DIRNDORFER, CET - Design Manager

John Dirndorfer, proudly one of NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Certified Engineering Technicians in the field of Highway Traffic Operations in the nation, is a Design Manager with more than 17 years experience in the field of Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations. He spent five years working for the Maryland State Highway Administration in the areas of traffic sign operations and traffic engineering. The next two years were spent with the Prince George’s County, Maryland, Department of Public Works & Transportation conducting traffic studies, addressing citizen concerns, and managing the County’s traffic signal design and maintenance program. 

Since becoming a Traffic Consultant in 1989, his diversified areas of expertise have been expanded to include signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, traffic signal interconnect plans, geometric designs analysis, and other areas involving traffic safety issues.  He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and planning to complete his studies at Johns Hopkins University.  Currently, Mr. Dirndorfer is a lead project manager for many of the Traffic Engineering Services Contracts awarded to The Traffic Group, Inc.

Representative List of Projects:

  • US Capitol Perimeter Security, Washington, D.C. - This design/build project involved the timely development of Maintenance of Traffic plans for on-going construction around the U.S. Capitol. The primary concern was to maintain pedestrian and vehicle access into the U.S. Capitol grounds.
  • DANAC/Stiles Development, Montgomery County,  MD - A commercial/retail development that required off-site traffic signal and pavement marking improvements at 4 major intersections in the Shady Grove area. 
  • University of Maryland Comcast Arena Center, Prince George’s County, MD - This project involved realignment and widening of a major entrance into the U of M College Park Campus, which was part of the construction for the Comcast Arena Sports Complex. Much emphasis was placed on Maintenance of Traffic plans with pedestrian safety.
  • Washington Sanitary Sewer Commission (WSSC) - Wheaton High Zone Water Line Installation, Montgomery County,  MD - This project involved the installation of a 60 inch water line in the roadway of several major State highways in the Washington Metropolitan area. Our emphasis was to develop Maintenance of Traffic plans to allow for construction during peak hour travel times.
